Is Petrol Dead?

Has petrol and Diesel had its time?

Here at Cycle Tech Oldham, one of our main driving forces has always been a desire to have a positive impact on our environment. The relentless, and often unnecessary use of motorised vehicles is causing significant damage to our ecosystem at an alarming rate.

For example, in a recent UK study, it was found that passenger cars are accountable for 53% of total UK transport emissions. The thing that upsets us is that many of these journeys are local and usually under 5 miles. We strongly believe that an e-bike is ideal for these short, undemanding trips.

But why switch?

We understand that some terrains and roads are more demanding and may be intimidating for someone who is not an experienced bicycle rider or not has fit as they used to be. But with an e-bike!

They give you the ability to:

  • Tackle hills and troublesome terrain with ease

  • Travel fast

  • Cycle regardless of fitness ability

  • Cycle without breaking a sweat

The electric bikes are fully electric so you can explore the roads with 0% toxic fuel emissions. Unfortunately, this can’t be said about the average car which emits over 2 tons of CO2 a year. No car, no guilt.

Being sustainable doesn’t just save the environment, its saves your money too. Just to put this into context, if those of us who live within a 5 mile radius of work decided to go electric, we would collectively save £3.7 billion every year in motor vehicle costs. It’s a no brainer.

Or if you look at this in your personal terms, an e-bike costs around 10 pence to charge up the battery, batteries give you an average range of 50 miles. If you do 10 miles per day and commute 5 days a week, your travel costs will be 10 pence per week.

At Cycle Tech Oldham we stock e-bikes from Raleigh, Diamond Back, Roodog and Orbea. Soon we will be stocking the amazing Eskuta Range of e-bikes (who are the original authors of this blog).
